On May 18, 2018 at 22:39, Station 36 and MICU 25 were dispatched for an accident involving two vehicles. Rescue 36 quickly responded with 5 and arrived on scene with one vehicle against the guardrail and one down the embankment. The rescue crew split to address the needs of each vehicle.

The SUV down the embankment still had 5 passengers confined to the vehicle. Given the amount of patients now reported, Command requested a second BLS ambulance, which alerted Ambulance 24 to scene. With the distance off the roadway, the crew utilized a portable Hurst unit and tools to remove the rear doors and free the patients.

While the crew was busy working on the SUV, the second crew went in service with the vehicle still on the road. The driver of the second vehicle was trapped from doors, dash, and intrusion into the passenger compartment. Crews from the Rescue and Utility worked quickly with the Hurst tools to remove the driver’s side front and rear door and the “B” post. This gave the EMS crew sufficient access to remove the patient safely.

Crews cleared the scene shortly after midnight.
