Agricultural Rescue in Honey Brook Township

August 15, 2018

On 8/14/2018, around 1930 hrs, PMLFC was dispatched to assist Honey Brook Fire Company with an agricultural rescue. Chief 36, Utility 36 with LAR36 (Large Animal Rescue Trailer), and Rescue 36 made a quick response. Crews from Station 33 were on-scene confirming the report of 1 cow stuck in an open air manure pit. Station 33 crews successfully maneuvered the cow to the edge of the manure pit and awaited LAR36 and the Chester County Animal Rescue Team (C.A.R.T.), who carry specialized gear for situations like these. PMLFC arrived with the C.A.R.T and were briefed on the situation and quickly put into action a plan that utilized lifting straps and a skid loader to hoist the cow out of the pit. The cow was successfully hoisted from the pit and returned to a nearby barn. These types of calls present a unique set of challenges each and every time. Great job by all involved and the owners to being patient and working with responders.

This is just one of the many things that PMLFC volunteers train hard to do to help the communities of Chester County.
