Shortly after 1200pm on Saturday afternoon Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company was dispatched for a house that was reported with fire through the roof. As police arrived to the scene they confirmed a working fire with no hydrants in the area. The column of smoke could be seen several miles away billowing into the sky.
Engine 36, Rescue 36, and Tanker 36 made swift responses with 10 personnel. Rescue 36 arrived as the third due engine. Rescue 36 crew made entrance into the structure with the second attack line onto the second floor. Crews on the second floor noted conditions deteriorated rapidly. An evacuation of the structure was called with all firefighters out safely and accounted for.
At this time, all companies began a defensive attack on the fire. The engine crew assisted with defensive operations and extinguishment/overhaul. Rescue and Engine 36 combined with 5” hose from Engine 24 and 25 provided a water supply of over 3800’ from hydrant to the scene. Tanker 36 also provided water for initial operations until the hydrant was established.
Our crews were finally back to the station six hours after the initial call and remained at the station another hour to repack, clean, and debrief about the call.

Special thanks to Parkside Fire Station 45 for the standby while we were busy on this call!
